Leadership Team (Elders & Senior Staff)

God has greatly blessed Cornerstone with many gifted, godly and grace-filled leaders and staff. Our role is to lead and equip God’s people for works of service, to build up the church.

John Russell
(Lead Minister & Elder)

John originally joined Cornerstone as a student, having moved to Nottingham to study Politics at university. Following a number of years working in local government, John joined the staff team in 2007, becoming Lead Minister in 2015. He has responsibility for leading the church and our leadership team. John is married to Catherine and they have a young family.

Colin Webster

Colin Webster
(Minister & Elder)

Colin joined the Cornerstone team as one of the ministers in 1996 following 3 years training at Moorlands Bible College. In addition to preaching and pastoring his main areas of responsibility are in encouraging the church in its evangelism and overseeing the worship team. He has led worship at various conferences such as Word Alive and the Keswick Convention and has written several worship songs.

Pete Brown

Pete Brown
(Minister & Elder)

Pete joined the staff team at Cornerstone in 2001. He is passionate about preaching, making disciples and young people. He shares the preaching ministry of the Church with John, oversees the youth work, leads a large Scripture Union Holiday called ka’zoo and loves all things technology and design. Pete is married to Charlie who teaches piano.

Spencer Hampton

Spencer has been part of the staff team since 2003, and leads the management of our facilities, finances and operations. He is married to Liz, and they have two children, Joseph and Bethany.

Amanda Smart Gosran

Amanda Smart-Gosrani
(Director of Ministry)

Prior to joining the staff team in 2006, Amanda spent fourteen years teaching English and Drama, then five years with the Trent Vineyard Arches Project. Amanda oversees the team leading our children's ministry and also has other leadership responsibilities within the church. Amanda leads a Connect Group with her husband, Tirin, and has three sons.

Kathryn Jackson

(Families Ministry Worker)

Kathryn taught History for 11 years before joining the team as the Families Ministry Worker here at Cornerstone. Kathryn is married to Jonathan (better known as JJ) and has two small children.

Roo Miller

Roo Miller
(Minister in Training)

Roo grew up in Nottingham, but first came to Cornerstone when he returned to the city with his wife, Esther, in 2010. After a few years as a Chemistry teacher, Roo joined the Cornerstone staff as Minister in Training in 2015. He oversees the Student Ministry in the church and is training for church leadership through the Acts 29 Oak Hill Academy. Roo and Esther live in Chilwell and have two children, Aoife and Hamish.

Richard Lewis

Richard has been a member of Cornerstone since 1986 and his wife Carolyn became a member after they married in 1988. Their two children are young adults. Richard and Carolyn lead a Connect Group together and Richard has been an elder on the leadership team since 1995.

Joff Gribbin

Joff Gribbin
(Elder)

Joff and Clare first came to Cornerstone when they were students and thirty years on they are still here! They have three children and lead the mission coordinating group which oversees the support which the church gives to our overseas workers.

Paul Couchman

Paul Couchman
(Elder)

Paul and his wife Katie have been members of Cornerstone since moving to Nottingham in 2000. They have two teenage children. Paul has been an elder on the leadership team since 2009.

Bill Rettie

Bill Rettie
(Elder)

Bill served as a missionary in Africa doing agricultural development and outreach ministry. He came to Nottingham in 2003 but still maintains an active involvement in ministry in Kenya. At Cornerstone he supports our overseas workers through the Mission Coordinating Group and, together with his wife Rosemary, is involved in house group leadership.

Jonny Graham

Jonny Graham
(Elder)

Jonny has been part of Cornerstone Church since arriving as a student in 2002, and became an Elder in 2015. He works as a GP and leads a Connect Group with his wife, Shalini. Jonny also leads one of our Connect Group clusters. Jonny & Shalini have a young son, Josiah, and they live in Beeston.

Mark Collins

Mark Collins
(Elder)

Mark has been part of Cornerstone since coming to Nottingham as a student in 1998. He is married to Claire, and has two primary school aged children. He works in Nottingham as a Civil Engineer.

Simon Lister

Simon Lister
(Elder)

Simon first came to Cornerstone in 2006 as a student and has stayed since then. He later married Claire and they have been involved as members of Cornerstone through work amongst international students, supporting the overseas workers and children's ministry.


Other Staff

Liz Middleton

Liz Middleton
(Friends International)

Cornerstone supports Liz’s work with Friends International amongst international students. Previously for several years Liz lived in central China, initially teaching English & studying Mandarin, and then working with abandoned children. In her spare time Liz enjoys relaxing walks in the countryside, playing the piano and meeting up with family & friends.

Mike Shouler

Mike Shouler
(Accounts Assistant)

Mike is a retired accountant who has been working for Cornerstone for several years as our part time accounts assistant. He is married to Fi who is vicar of two churches in the Selston area of Nottinghamshire.

Charlie Tyrrell

Charlie Tyrrell
(Systems Manager)

Charlie is originally from Leeds and came to Nottingham in 2002 as a student, and qualified as a pharmacist in 2008. She joined the Cornerstone staff in 2013 supporting the leadership team in a variety of different ways. Charlie is married to Ed and they have a beautiful daughter, Zara.

Sarah Daniels

Sarah Daniels
(Events Manager)

Sarah is originally from Derby and has a daughter named Lydia. She studied Tourism Management in Leeds and has worked in hospitality and events for a number of years. She joined the Cornerstone team in 2013 to work in office administration and is now the Events Manager.

Alasdair Trench

Alasdair Trench
(Intern)

Originally from Norfolk, Alasdair came to Nottingham five years ago to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Nottingham. Having graduated, he has now joined the Cornerstone staff team as the Children's Intern. Alasdair enjoys playing the piano at any available opportunity, and loves to go mountain climbing when he can.

Charlotte Beach

Charlotte grew up in Stevenage and moved to Nottingham four years ago to study Physics at the University of Nottingham. Since graduating, she has joined the Cornerstone team to work with students as the Student Intern. Charlotte is an avid reader and cat-lover and gets overly excited about fiddling with technology, computers or stage equipment.

Laura Baines

Laura Baines
(Intern)

Having grown up in Bristol, Laura moved to Nottingham as a student to study Costume Design and Making at Nottingham Trent University. Laura in her spare time is making her way through the Internet Movie Databases top 250 films of all time, (currently on 145). When not watching films, Laura can be found playing the board game Settlers of Catan or practicing her cello. She has now joined the staff as the youth intern primarily helping with Plunge.

Bonicel Madeline

Madeleine Bonicel
(Voluntary Associate)

Madeleine grew up in the UK but has also lived in France, Germany and Sweden with her husband Sebastien and three children Luke, Kesia and Myriam. She is currently supporting the Learning English at Cornerstone sessions and our international workers.

Helen HT

Helen Howell-Thomas
(Voluntary Associate)

Originally from Newcastle, Helen moved to Nottingham in 1999 as a student and has been attending Cornerstone ever since. She has worked as a primary school teacher for the last 13 years, including a stint as an overseas worker in India. She’s now married to Ben and has two young daughters. She’s joined the team as a Voluntary Associate during a career break and is currently working on developing Prayer Space and other aspects of prayer in church.
